History Overview
Learning history encourages an interest in and curiosity about the past and how it has influenced the present.
Through the teaching of History, we aim to develop children’s:
- understanding of chronology from the earliest times to the present day;
- knowledge and understanding of significant events, people and changes in the past;
- ability to and think critically when examining evidence;
- methods of historical enquiry;
- understanding of historical concepts such as continuity and change, cause and consequence, similarity, difference and significance and use them to make connections;
- skills of enquiry, investigation, analysis, evaluation and presentation;
- ability to ask perceptive questions, interpret sources of information, develop perspective and judgement and create their own structured accounts, including narratives and analysis;
- ability to use historical vocabulary.
At Brunswick Park, we use a variety of computing resources such as Google Art and Culture Education, Now Press Play, Padlet and Popplet to support and enhance children’s learning. The curriculum is enriched with trips and visits.
