Florence Eshalomi, Labour Member of Parliament for Vauxhall and Camberwell Green, came to Brunswick on 30 April to meet the children.
She spoke to Years 1-6 in assemblies, and told them about her job as an MP and what it is like to work in the Houses of Parliament. She is from South London, and grew up and went to school in Brixton. One of her constituents’ issues she is keen to improve is housing, as she remembers her own home being overcrowded and how that felt. She asked the children how they felt about their housing, and about sharing bedrooms with brothers and sisters, and explained how she wants more housing to be built in the area for families. The children told her they want more youth clubs, activities and places to play outside. She was impressed with Year 2’s fundraising for Save the Children, and bought some slime!
