Teaching for Mastery
White Rose Maths is taught from Year 1 – Year 5. Our staff work with the London South East+ Maths Hub to introduce Teaching for Mastery at Brunswick Park across the school. Mastery means pupils acquiring a deep, long-term, secure and adaptable understanding of maths. Children use manipulatives, maths language and reasoning skills to develop a secure and adaptable understanding of mathematics.
White Rose is a leader in the field of Mastery in Mathematics. If you are interested in learning more about our schemes of work, resources or Teaching for Mastery, please see the many free resources available on the White Rose Website https://whiterosemaths.com/ or speak to Edel Fallon, Evie Macdonnell or Thomas Moudiotis.

These documents provide a basic overview of what will be taught each week in the classroom in Year 6. As a general rule, a different strand of mathematical teaching is covered each week. The plans are grouped by term.
N.B – To ensure teaching meets the needs of individual children, the teacher will make changes to some/all of statements to ensure there is sufficient challenge and pace in class.
EYFS:
In line with the National Curriculum and Early Years Foundation Stage Framework, teachers guide their classes through challenging and engaging maths lessons focusing on Number and Numerical Patterns. These are the areas which are statutory under the 2021 EYFS Framework. Children are also exposed to activities involving shapes and measurement.
Mastering Number:
Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 access the NCETM Mastering Number programme. The aim of this is to secure firm foundations in number sense for all children from Reception to Year 2. It develops fluency in calculation and confidence and flexibility with number. More information about it can be found here: https://www.ncetm.org.uk/maths-hubs-projects/mastering-number/

Homework:
Age-appropriate maths homework is set weekly at Brunswick Park on Times Tables Rock Stars. Parents and carers can also help children process their learning by asking their child to ‘become the teacher’ and explain what has been learned that day at school. As maths is a part of everyday life, it is valuable to make mathematical connections with your children both at home and outside. For those wishing to provide extra maths work for their children at home, the following websites are useful.
