Edvard Munch was a Norwegian painter and printmaker. He was born on December 12, 1863 in Löten, Norway and died on January 23, 1944 in Ekely, near Oslo. Munch’s work was influenced by late 19th-century Symbolism and greatly influenced German Expressionism in the early 20th century. His 1893 work, The Scream, has become one of Western art’s most acclaimed images.
