Power and Pride
For this year’s Black History Month, Brunswick Park will focus on the theme ‘Standing firm in power and pride‘. For the next two weeks, the curriculum will involve pupils learning about key modern British figures from a range of sectors, such as science, sport and entertainment, in a positive and celebratory way. The figures have been chosen to engage pupils and stimulate plenty of discussion and learning regarding their achievements in British society and on the global stage and the struggles they faced along the way. The children will learn about:
- Nursery: Floella Benjamin (Entertainment)
- Reception: Sir Lenny Henry (Entertainment and Charity)
- Year 1: Dame Shirley Bassey (Music)
- Year 2: Dr Maggie Aderin (Science)
- Year 3: Claudia Jones (the Arts)
- Year 4: Sir Lewis Hamilton (Sports)
- Year 5: Joseph Coelho (Literature)
- Year 6: Dame Elizabeth Anionwu (Science)
We cannot wait for you all to see our learning!
