National Year of Reading and World Book Day

February 27, 2026Brunswick Park NewsBPPS Newsroom

We will celebrate our love of books and reading on Brunswick Park’s World Book Day, on Thursday 5 March 2026!

The theme for the day is ‘Poetic Power!’ We will listen to and recite poems that had a powerful impact on the members of staff who have chosen them. Throughout the day, poetry written by the children will be exhibited on Bluesky. Children will also take part in a range of fun book-based activities to encourage them to talk about the characters and stories they love to read.

Following another successful application, Brunswick Park Primary School has again been selected to receive hundreds of books from the Children’s Book Project, which we will use to stage high impact, inclusive and celebratory gifting events for our pupils, completely free of charge!

The first of these gifting events is on Thursday 5 March, World Book Day 2026. Each Year Group will set up a Pop-Up Bookshop during the school day, where the children will choose two free books each to keep and share with you at home. Children from Reception to Year 6 will also be given a World Book Day Voucher which can be exchanged for a book at participating stores.

Dressing up for World Book Day is popular with the children and sets the day apart. At Brunswick Park this year the children can choose to dress as a character from a book they love, in pyjamas to celebrate bedtime stories, in a costume or in their own clothes. You are invited to be creative with what you have rather than buy a costume. It’s a celebration of imagination!

Thank you for your support, and we look forward to a great celebration of books and reading on Thursday 5 March, World Book Day!
