Dear Parents and Carers,
It’s been a busy fortnight with Science Day, RE Day, assessments, marble treats, visits to the Track-It Light Shop and refurbishing the library downstairs, which is now almost finished and is starting to look amazing. Our Flagship Library Status is now within reach, and we are delighted our children will have such an inviting new space in which to enjoy their reading. Thanks to all of you who came to support your children at Parents’ Evenings last week. They are justly proud of the work they do and the progress they are making, and love sharing their learning and achievements with you.
As we begin a well-earned break, in this newsletter there are reminders about Southwark’s Easter of Food and Fun and information about other activities to do over the holiday with your children. But the big news in this letter regards an issue that has been causing growing concern to parents and staff alike: when will the cameras on Picton Street actually start working? The Council has finally finished its testing and calibration, and the cameras will start operating on MONDAY 17 APRIL 2023, the day the children return to school. So, from Monday 17 April, Brunswick’s School Street will return and the Council will issue warnings and fines to drivers who use their cars on Picton Street between 08:30 and 09:15 and between 15:00 and 16:00. Whilst this may be inconvenient for some, the children’s safety has to be our first concern, and they will be working with their teachers and Council staff next term on communicating the School Streets
message to parents and the local community. Thank you as always for your patience and understanding.
Finally, in a fortnight’s time we embark on another busy term – they are all busy – but the Summer Term is the one in which statutory assessments take place: reaching a Good Level of Development (GLD) in Reception, the Phonics Screening Check in Years 1 and 2, SATs Teacher Assessment in Year 2, the Multiplication Tables Check in Year 4 and SATs in Year 6. Whilst all these are done, we will continue to make learning and school fun and enjoyable for the children, beginning with an Art Day on Friday 21 April organised by Year 6 teacher and Art Lead Evie MacDonnell. Until then, have a wonderful break (and for those who mark Easter, be careful not to overdo the chocolate!). With best wishes for a peaceful and enjoyable Easter Break, and see you on Monday 17 April.
