Dear Parents and Carers,
It’s been a busy fortnight at Brunswick: teachers and support staff have been transforming the corridor displays to reflect the children’s brilliant learning since they returned from lockdown, and the school looks amazing. We have such creative talent across the staff team, and everyone who works here understands the importance of a high quality, vibrant and stimulating learning environment to children’s wellbeing. Created with care and attention to detail it shows the children are valued, which at Brunswick they very much are; they are the reason we are here. When the displays are all finished a tour will appear on the website so whilst restrictions are in place you can see for yourself.
In this Newsletter a spotlight is shone on learning particularly in Years 2 and 3, who show you something of the breadth of the school’s curriculum. It’s very important children learn practically to develop skills and knowledge, and that they experience learning in lots of different ways. Playing the role of detective to solve a ‘crime’ creates plenty to talk and write about, for example, as do tasting, growing, experimenting, investigating, making and cooking. The facial expressions say it all.
We look forward to welcoming Ms Vivian Etuk on Monday to teach Class 2B for 6 weeks in a teacher exchange between Brunswick Park and Torridon Primary School in Lewisham. Ms Chantelle Hughes will teach Ms Etuk’s Year 4 class, and both teachers will return at the end of the exchange full of new ideas and experiences to share. It’s a great opportunity for both of them, and I know you will make Ms Etuk very welcome.
As the weather warms up (finally), a reminder that you can now provide your child with a named bottle of plain water to supplement the water already given to children in sanitised cups and at lunchtime with their meals. Bottles must be taken home every day to be washed thoroughly.
For parents and carers of children in Year 6 there is information about uniform grants for secondary school, and for all parents there is information about a brilliant initiative from Morrison’s Supermarket to make sure everyone who needs them has access to sanitary products.
Finally, between 12 and 13 May it is the festival of Eid-Al-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan’s period of fasting. We wish all our Muslim families very happy celebrations.
With best wishes for a safe and healthy fortnight ahead.
