Dear Parents and Carers,
I begin with THANK YOU. Thank you for your support of our early finishes yesterday and today because of the extreme heat, and for supporting your children so well throughout the year, enabling them to recover from the worst of the pandemic – there is still a way to go – and to achieve well from their starting points. Individual school’s Key Stage 2 SATs results are not published this year and there are no league tables, but Brunswick’s children did really well in comparison with National averages, and we are extremely proud of all of them.
The children have made us proud in so many other ways too, including continuing to develop confidence when speaking, and raising a phenomenal £1219 through projects that they planned, designed, marketed and made for our nominated charity ActionAidUK, supporting children in Africa and Tanzania. Learning about business and enterprise and how they can be used to do good in the world and improve people’s lives is really important to children’s cultural development and their understanding of society.
And let’s not forget the power of Brunswick’s parent and carer community, which has been amazing! The Brunswick Park Families Association has taken off brilliantly, and its events throughout the year have been roaring successes, culminating in Brunswick’s first ever Summer Fair on a Saturday. They make the staff at the school feel valued and appreciated, and give the children vital funds.
Finally, I have the opportunity to celebrate success in a different way: by saying goodbye. Our Year 6 pupils graduated today and are on their way to secondary school; a rite of passage for which they are ready, even if today they didn’t really feel it. It is their time, and we wish them all the very best on the next leg of their educational journey. We also say goodbye to teachers Shalwa Nantume, who is leaving to start a business in the Care sector, and Dina Achilleos, who is going to teach at a Federation of schools in Brent that need the expertise she has gained at Brunswick since beginning her career as a Newly Qualified Teacher 5 years ago. It is their time too, and we wish them nothing but success and happiness as they take their next step, for that is our purpose: to enable our school community to take the next step with knowledge and confidence. Our term dates for next year are in this letter, and our diary is on the school website and will be updated for 2022-23 over the holiday.
I wish you a peaceful, safe and enjoyable time with your families, and there are plenty of details of activities to do over the holiday in this and the last newsletter. Looking forward to seeing you again on 5 September.
Best wishes
