Dear Parents and Carers,
IIt was great to see so many children and families supporting the charity Macmillan’s work today through wearing green, making donations at the gate and attending our School Home Support Worker Marjorie Damah’s Coffee Morning, further details of which you will find below. At Brunswick Park we place importance on respect and consideration for others, and on the work of charities that help us.
We teach the children that respect is earned and that you have to give it to get it back; life’s uncertainties mean none of us know when we will need to turn to others for support. Learning about charity helps to teach children this valuable lesson.
Brunswick’s next work to support a charity is in October for Southwark’s Pecan Food Bank, funded by the Trussell Trust, to support our work on Harvest. Fiona sent a letter to all families this week with further details; if you have not seen this yet, please check your ParentMail Account or collect a hard copy from the School Office.
Despite recent – some might say rash – politicians’ pledges to increase school funding, the fact remains that Southwark’s schools are operating in unprecedently challenging times financially. Every penny counts, and as time goes by there are fewer and fewer of them. Our FoBS (Friends of Brunswick School) parents’ and carers’ association has up until now focused on organising activities and events that bring the school community together positively, and it has done, and continues to do, a great job. In light of the school’s dwindling resources the FoBS now need to focus their attention more sharply on raising additional funds to support the school to ensure its children continue to receive the breadth of educational opportunities they deserve.
If you have successful experience of fundraising and would like to help, or if you want to support the FoBS in their work with the school and its community, please contact Joshua Bowdery, Reception Teacher, Tracy Sherry or Jude Forecast, both Reception TAs, me, or Eden or Ché in the School Office. We are all looking forward to hearing from you.
With best wishes for a peaceful and enjoyable weekend and fortnight ahead.
