We are teachers: it is our vocation to teach and improve the life chances of the children in our care. School closure will not prevent us from trying our best to fulfil this vocation. So, we have organised the following learning for your child at home:
A paper home learning pack has been made for every child at Brunswick Park from Reception to Year 6. It is packed full of learning, work and activities for your child to do at home. If your child has not received one of these because they have been absent from school, please come to the School Office with a carrier bag to collect it. It needs a bag because we are giving the children a lot to do.
Our website is loaded with home learning packs and websites for you to access with your children, including links to MyMaths, Times Tables Rock Stars and Bug Club, for which children in Years 1-6 have logins. Please go to www.brunswickparkprimary.co.uk then click on the Our Parents Tab and scroll to Home Learning Resources where you will find everything you need. Our IT Manager has ensured that every child in the school who is able to has access to these sites; if you are experiencing difficulty with logging in please email office@brunswickpark.southwark.sch.uk .
The expectation is that children will spend part of every weekday doing home learning and school-related activities. When your children are at school, children in the EYFS and KS1 spend approximately 5 hours per day learning and pupils in KS2 spend approximately 5.5 hours. We understand this is not realistic at home. Something more realistic would be for children to spend the morning doing learning activities and the afternoon doing activities that are more play based.
Establishing and keeping to a routine is helpful for children and parents alike, and splits the day up into manageable chunks. This one is a suggestion only; please adapt it to suit your circumstances:
Your child’s teacher will set work on a Monday from the home learning that is available, and will check in with your child on Wednesdays and Fridays. The teachers will do this by email, so please check your ParentMail regularly, and we will update the website regularly throughout the time the school is closed.
If you require support or have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher by email on office@brunswickpark.southwark.sch.uk putting your child’s name and the teacher’s name in the subject line. Staff will respond to you via this address.
When the school reopens we would love to see all the work your children have done, so do please keep it to show us when the time comes. If you would like to photograph a particularly brilliant piece of work or creative project that your child does whilst at home, please send it via email to office@brunswickpark.southwark.sch.uk and we can put it on the website to motivate and inspire.
Thank you for your support at this very strange time, and we wish you luck, good health and all the very best in the coming weeks. Please remember that there will always be someone in the school building for you to contact during week days should the need arise.
