Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to the first Newsletter of 2019! Though it already seems a very long time ago, I hope you had a restful and enjoyable break over the Christmas period, and it has been a pleasure to welcome the children back to school for the new term. We choose our monthly values carefully, and in January, the darkest, coldest month of the year, we choose to keep our spirits up by being positive. So we begin the new year with new initiatives, the first of which is ‘WHICH Book?’ led by our Reading Lead Christina Huszar. It is detailed below, and continues our focus on reading by building on the great success of last term’s Book Bonanza. Reading is at the centre of almost everything we do – children need to be able to read to take part in almost every subject and to participate fully in school – and to read for pleasure, children need to develop the confidence and know-how to choose books that truly interest them and that challenge them just enough to develop their reading skills.
I am delighted that the FoBS are supporting our reading focus with their Reception and Nursery Bedtime Story Event in conjunction with Pyjama Day for the rest of the school on 13 February; a chance to get everyone reading and sharing stories together.
To continue to develop effective partnerships and communication with parents and carers, this term we will come to you with some proposals for consultation on how best we can keep you informed about what your child is learning and how, as part of our work to develop the curriculum we offer the children. The school has made great progress in the last 2 years, and we want to build on it by strengthening further the partnerships it has with everyone in the school community.
With best wishes for a peaceful and enjoyable weekend.
